History
The Jersey pattern (sometimes referred to as the Baltimore or Maryland pattern) became one of the most recognizable and favored single-bit axe designs in North America during the 19th and 20th centuries. Identified by its deep, downward-sloping ears (lugs) on either side of the eye, the design provided superior support against lateral torque when felling or bucking hardwood timber.
A 5 lb. Jersey pattern is a unusually heavy variant, built specifically for heavy-duty logging, splitting, and thick timber work where maximum momentum was needed. Restored and hung by craftsman Josh (@axeyankee), this axe pairs classic regional toolmaking history with elite modern hafting artistry.
