Detailed History
Founded in 1826 in Collinsville, Connecticut, the Collins Company grew to become the premier global manufacturer of axes, machetes, and agricultural edge tools. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Collins dominated the Central and South American markets, where their tools earned an unbeatable reputation for steel quality and edge retention. To combat widespread counterfeiters, Collins registered the famous "Legitimus" trademark—featuring a crown above an arm holding a hammer—as a seal of guaranteed authenticity. The No. 323 pattern was widely utilized by forestry workers, military personnel, and plantation workers throughout the mid-20th century. Finding a genuine Collins No. 323 complete with its factory original leather sheath makes this set a highly prized historical collectible.
